UNB Bank is building the financial foundation to support a program created to provide students in the Mount Carmel School District with meals so they do not go hungry on the weekends.
The bank’s initial donation of $1,500 to the Tornado Buddy Bag Program will kick off additional fund raising programs throughout the summer in order to maintain the program during the 2017-2018 school year.
The Tornado Buddy Bag Program will furnish 20 participants with backpacks stocked with enough food so they can make lunches, dinners and snacks over the weekends during the school year. The backpacks will be distributed on Fridays, assuring those children who do not have enough to eat at home, that they will not go hungry between the school-provided free lunch on Friday and free breakfast on Monday.
UNB Bank President and CEO William J. Kuzo said “We will be making the Tornado Buddy Bag Program a centerpiece of the bank’s charitable work.”
The bank will have fund collection points in their branches and employees will be hosting numerous events in order to call attention to this remarkable program.
“We feel this is a very worthwhile program and we’re going to give.” Said Kuzo. That’s just the UNB way.”
Donations can be made to the Tornado Buddy Bag program through the Mount Carmel Area Education Foundation on the district’s website or by mail to Mount Carmel Area School District Education Foundation, 600 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel 17851. UNB Bank will also accept donations at its location at Third and Oak Streets. Checks can be made payable to the Mount Carmel Area Education Foundation and should be denoted with the program’s name.
